What Our NDIS Psychologists Help With

Our NDIS psychological services provide support for participants to improve emotional wellbeing, build independence, develop coping strategies, and work toward functional goals that relate to everyday life and participation. Psychological intervention should be tailored to the participant’s goals, support needs, strengths, communication preferences, developmental stage, and functional presentation. It may include assessment, formulation, therapy, emotion regulation strategies, behavioural approaches, psychoeducation, coping skills, family support, and progress monitoring.

Is NDIS Psychology Support Right for You?

The NDIS system can feel confusing. Here is a plain-language guide to help you understand who this service is for, how the funding works, and what to expect when you get started.

1

Who is this service for?

NDIS psychology support is available to participants whose plan includes funding for therapeutic supports, and whose plan is self-managed or plan-managed. It is commonly used by:

Children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
People living with ADHD or intellectual disability
Individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, or PTSD
People with psychosocial disability — where a mental health condition affects daily life
Carers and families who need guidance and practical strategies

You do not need a GP referral if your plan is self-managed or plan-managed — you can contact us directly.

2

Which part of your NDIS plan pays for it?

Psychology services are typically funded under the Capacity Building budget — specifically the Improved Daily Living category. This budget is designed to help participants build skills and improve day-to-day functioning.

Not sure if your plan includes this? Our team will review your plan with you at no charge before you commit to anything.

3

What will sessions actually look like?

Your psychologist will work with you at a pace that suits you. Depending on your goals and plan, sessions may focus on:

Building coping skills for anxiety, depression, or trauma
Developing routines, independence, and daily living skills
Improving communication and social confidence
Supporting carers with practical strategies for day-to-day life

Sessions are available in-clinic, via telehealth, or in your home — whichever works best for you.

Transparent Pricing — Clearly Communicated Before Every Session

We believe cost should never be a barrier to care. All rates, and any applicable additional charges, are clearly explained before your first session. NDIS-funded services are billed at the applicable NDIS price limit for each support item.

At-Home NDIS Psychology Sessions: How Travel Charges Work

For at-home therapy sessions, travel charges may apply in accordance with the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements. Provider travel time is generally claimable at up to 50% of the applicable therapy price limit, subject to applicable caps and conditions. Non-labour travel costs — such as kilometres travelled — are claimable at up to $0.99 per kilometre, plus reasonable tolls and parking costs where applicable. Travel charges, where they apply, will be disclosed to you in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about NDIS psychology services

Can I use my NDIS plan for psychology services?

Yes — if your plan includes funding for therapeutic supports under the Capacity Building budget. NDIS-funded psychological support should generally relate to disability support needs, functional impact, participation, independence, emotion regulation, communication, behaviour support, social participation, or plan goals. Supports that are primarily medical treatment may sit wholly or partly within the health system rather than the NDIS.

No. Therapy Near Me works with participants whose plans are self-managed or plan-managed. NDIS-managed participants are required to use NDIS-registered providers — this is not a service we currently offer to agency-managed participants.

Therapeutic approaches may include CBT, ACT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed approaches, mindfulness-based approaches, and other evidence-based interventions selected according to clinical suitability.

Sessions are conducted via a secure video platform. You need a device (phone, tablet, or computer) with internet access and a private space. Telehealth is available 7 days a week including evenings. The quality of care is equivalent to an in-person session.

Yes. ASD support may focus on communication, emotion regulation, social participation, sensory considerations, daily functioning, and meaningful participant goals. ADHD support may focus on executive functioning, routines, emotion regulation, organisation, and practical strategies. Support for intellectual disability may involve adapted approaches, communication modifications, emotional wellbeing strategies, and functional skill development.

At-home therapy means your psychologist travels to your home to deliver sessions in a familiar environment. This is particularly well-suited to participants with limited mobility, sensory sensitivities, or complex support needs. Travel charges may apply — these will always be disclosed to you in advance.

For at-home sessions, travel charges may apply in accordance with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements. All fees and any applicable additional charges are confirmed with you in writing before your first session. There are no unexpected charges.
